What community programs does the UUSB support, run, offer, or help?
Our society is extremely active in the community. This raffle and it's proceeds support many of the following programs:
- Our Religious Education program, which is open to members and non-members, including many adult RE programs
- Community Bean Suppers, free and open to the public. Offered the 4th and 5th Saturday's of the month, as well as take home bag lunches.
- Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, run by UUSB volunteers and food provided by the UUSB once each month
- Collect and donate for the Ecumenical Food Cupboard
- Provide free or reduced rental rates for local area community and non-profit groups and organizations
- Over a dozen local groups use the UUSB buildings on Park Street each month to hold meetings. Some on a daily basis, others on a weekly or monthly basis. All at free or reduced rates from our regular rental schedule.
- December Holiday Feasts. Provide holiday meals for over 100 people each year.
- The Griswold Fund. Providing financial assistance for women in need.
- The Minister's Discretionary Fund. Providing our minister with funds to help Bangor area individuals at the minister's discretion.
- The Deacon's Fund. Provide donations to a variety of purposes, including the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, the BARN, housing assistance, the Martin Luther King Jr. annual breakfast, and the Bangor Hunger Fund.
- Share the Plate ministry. Half of all undesignated funds from the Sunday service collections are donated to local area organizations
- Provide individual care management and food security for some of Bangor's more disadvantaged individuals and families
- King's Daughters Home in Bangor, serving on the Board of Managers
- Support, host, and volunteer in the Window Dresser's program. Helping Bangor area families with energy efficient window inserts
- Mid-Maine Youth Group/Safe Passages program, including local training, fundraising and volunteering in Maine and Guatamala
- UUSB's Reverend Drew Moeller is the Chairperson for the Professional Advisory Committee for the new Chaplaincy program at Northern Light Healthcare
- Host the weekly Coffee House every Tuesday night
- Social action outreach programs. You'll almost always see our members standing out at any of the many social action programs not just in Bangor but at the State House.
